3 out of 5 stars Checksoft   July 23, 2010

I have used Microsoft Money for the past 15 years.. I recently purchased a new laptop and needed a new version of MM, but they have discontinued it.. I tried Checksoft and it is a comparable product to MM, but there is to many annoying things you have to do to enter or change a transaction. MM, you just entered your transaction. Checksoft, you have to click "new", and either tab or use your mouse to get to the fields you need. MM, was just straight forward, Check #, date, to who, amount/either transaction or deposit, if want to put something in the memo, enter... To edit in MM same thing, just go in and edit. You don't have to hit a "edit" button, just edit..

Checksoft is a nice program, it keeps my checkbook balanced, but I wouldn't buy it again or recommend it...

3 out of 5 stars Beware! Get the right version!   May 19, 2010

If you have the correct version, Checksoft works well. I've been using it for years to print checks from Quicken in one pass. However when I upgraded to Quicken 2010, my old version of Checksoft wasn't compatible. Avanquest tech support told me I needed to buy the latest version. I went to an office supply store and purchased a new copy. NOWHERE on the box does it state which version it is! But it does say it will work with current and previous versions of Quicken, and to check with Avanquest for updates when newer versions of Quicken are released. They also have a 30 day money back guarantee. Here's the catch! After much emailing and finally telephone calls, I discovered that: The money back guarantee requires that you pay to ship the product back to Avanquest, and they will reimburse the purchase price, but not any sales taxes collected! 2. If they do agree that you are entitled to a "Free" update, you still need to pay $7.95 for shipping!
Apparently you can't download an update, perhaps because most of what comes on the DVD is Clip-art! If you need this software, buy it directly from (gag) Avanquest. You will need to search their site for the cheaper Personal Deluxe Edition, as the only direct link is to the more expensive Home and Business version!

Avanquest needs to put the version information on the OUTSIDE of the box! They also need to be clear about what an update will cost. I doubt I will ever buy any more software from Avanquest.

3 out of 5 stars NOT Compatible with Quicken 2008 or Newer!   January 20, 2010

Be Aware: While this 2006 version of Checksoft is compatible with XP and Vista OS, it is NOT COMPATIBLE for check printing with Quicken 2008 or newer. This falls under the heading of "less than full disclosure" from the seller, in my opinion.

4 out of 5 stars Print your own, never pay for or run out of checks again!   July 11, 2009

Software is better than older versions, but still quirky. That said, it is nice to design your own checks (you can even import jpgs of your prized pics right onto your checks) and customize fonts and positioning on the check. Remove or add your phone number as the need is appropriate. NEVER run out of checks/have to pay for anything more than your paper supplies. Can set up for multiple accounts too! Great for the whole family. Since most of us use debit cards and autopay, I have not needed to replensh the template paper for several years now. Just buy a 900 count box of the check template paper and fogettabout it!

I bought this to be able to print my checks. I had quicken on my old computer and did not want to put it on my new machine. I thought this product would do the job. But getting it to find the printer has already taken three days of my time and it just isn't worth it. I'll go back to hand written..My printer works fine on everything but this. The product continues to send to the print queue but an error message continues to pop up. No printing. I gave up.

Your 401k Account - An Annual Checkup
By Dee Marie

You probably perform a lot of tasks annually. Some of these tasks protect you, your family, or even your assets. These chores include visiting your doctor for an annual physical or cleaning the gutters on your house. Well, next time you're making your list of 'must-do's' be certain to include a checkup for your 401(k) plan on your list.

Your annual examination of your 401(k) plan should cover a few different aspects of your investment. You can check each one quickly by exploring your most recent account statement.

First, you should evaluate your contribution amount. Changes in your financial position over the past year could warrant an increase or decrease in the amount you put into your 401(k). Receiving a raise at work is a great occasion to increase your retirement contribution. Changing your contribution amount isn't what matters here; it's taking the time to decide if you should make a change.

Next, you should take a look at your investment choices. A mutual fund that was outperforming its peers at this time last year may have tanked over the last twelve months. Although it's important to remember that you don't want to change your investment allocations too often, a regular examination of the funds you've chosen isn't excessive.

Finally, you should check on the way your investment options within your 401(k) are spread. Investing in four mutual funds, you might decide to put twenty-five percent of your account into each fund. However, if one fund grows more aggressively than another, at the end of the year you may have forty percent in one fund, ten percent in another, and twenty-five percent in each of the remaining two funds. Since financial experts sometimes advise that retirement accounts should be spread among many different types of investment, you may want to rebalance your account back to your original allocations of twenty-five percent in each fund.

Making changes to your 401(k) plan isn't something that should be taken lightly. Speak with your financial advisor if you aren't certain about the direction you should be taking. Regardless of the actions you decide to take, you'll feel better about your retirement plan after taking care of its annual maintenance.
