Product Description
THE STORY OF MICHAEL OHER, A HOMELESS AND TRAUMATIZED BOY WHO BECAME AN ALL AMERICAN FOOTBALL PLAYER AND FIRST ROUND NFL DRAFT PICK WITH THE HELP OF A CARING WOMAN AND HER FAMILY.

The Blind Side takes the true story of a young man who went from abandonment to success as a pro-football player and treats it with respect. The movie doesn't oversell what is, on the face of it, already compelling. It's almost impossible to describe the plot without sounding painfully inspirational: Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron, Be Kind Rewind), a hulking but gentle African-American teen in Tennessee, gets taken in by a well-to-do white family; the mother, Leigh Anne Touhy (Sandra Bullock), pushes and mothers the boy, who eventually wins a football scholarship to the University of Mississippi. In the wrong hands, this could have been maudlin, manipulative, and condescending. To the credit of writer-director John Lee Hancock, adapting Michael Lewis's acclaimed book, the result is intelligent, genuine, and alternately funny and moving. Leigh Anne could easily have been grandstanding and virtuous, but Bullock doesn't shy away from her vain and domineering side. The football scenes will be gripping even to non-sports fans because they've been so successfully grounded in Michael's emotional life. The all-around solid cast includes country music star Tim McGraw, pint-sized Jae Head (Hancock), and Kathy Bates as the tutor who guided Michael's academic success. Don't be surprised if you can't keep yourself from watching all the real-life photos of Michael, Leigh Anne, and the rest of the family that are featured in the credits; by the end of the movie, you will care about them all. --Bret Fetzer

Great movie - very touching. If you don't cry at least once, you're not human.

Beyond race, beyond religion, beyond politics, we are all human, and compassion is what makes us human.

Wow, im not much of a football fan or a country music fan but neither are that apparent in the movie. the story line is well written and the message is more sound than any movie ive seen in a long time. Well worth watching more than once.

This is by far Sandra Bullock's greatest performance. If she never made another film, it would be great if her legacy were this.

5 out of 5 stars Goodness might still exist!   July 23, 2010

Based on the real life story of Michael Oher, this movie successfully details Michael's pain, struggles, and emotions. Sandra Bullock shines as Leigh Ann Tuhoy; Michael's adoptive mom and deserves all the praise she received for her amazing performance. The movie also describes the rumors speculating the Tuhoys's motives regarding Michael's adoption, and how the great family dealt with it!

One of the funniest accusations against the movie is being racist! Just like people can't accept that goodness might still exist, they can't see people of different colors treating each other with respect without questioning their intentions.

This is a great movie to watch and to keep!

Your 401k Account - An Annual Checkup
By Dee Marie

You probably perform a lot of tasks annually. Some of these tasks protect you, your family, or even your assets. These chores include visiting your doctor for an annual physical or cleaning the gutters on your house. Well, next time you're making your list of 'must-do's' be certain to include a checkup for your 401(k) plan on your list.

Your annual examination of your 401(k) plan should cover a few different aspects of your investment. You can check each one quickly by exploring your most recent account statement.

First, you should evaluate your contribution amount. Changes in your financial position over the past year could warrant an increase or decrease in the amount you put into your 401(k). Receiving a raise at work is a great occasion to increase your retirement contribution. Changing your contribution amount isn't what matters here; it's taking the time to decide if you should make a change.

Next, you should take a look at your investment choices. A mutual fund that was outperforming its peers at this time last year may have tanked over the last twelve months. Although it's important to remember that you don't want to change your investment allocations too often, a regular examination of the funds you've chosen isn't excessive.

Finally, you should check on the way your investment options within your 401(k) are spread. Investing in four mutual funds, you might decide to put twenty-five percent of your account into each fund. However, if one fund grows more aggressively than another, at the end of the year you may have forty percent in one fund, ten percent in another, and twenty-five percent in each of the remaining two funds. Since financial experts sometimes advise that retirement accounts should be spread among many different types of investment, you may want to rebalance your account back to your original allocations of twenty-five percent in each fund.

Making changes to your 401(k) plan isn't something that should be taken lightly. Speak with your financial advisor if you aren't certain about the direction you should be taking. Regardless of the actions you decide to take, you'll feel better about your retirement plan after taking care of its annual maintenance.
