Unfolding with tragic inevitability, Dexter's fourth season is a taut game of cat and mouse between Dexter (Emmy nominee Michael C. Hall) and Arthur Mitchell, "a very special kind of monster," unnervingly portrayed by John Lithgow in his Emmy and Golden Globe-winning performance. Whoever guest stars in seasons to come has a very hard act to follow. (Never mind all the blood, Mitchell's greeting, "Hello, Dexter Morgan," from the episode of the same name, will disturb your sleep.) But let's not forget Hall's consistently cutting-edge work. The Dexter saga has a rich back-story and mythology, but for those new to the series and lured to this season by Lithgow's justly celebrated performance, season 4 is a good place to start, because it represents something of a new beginning for Dexter himself. Married at the end of season 3, he is now dreaming of "having it all" as a husband and father, trying to juggle the demands of his job as a Miami Metro Police Department blood-spatter analyst, his new family, and his other calling as a serial killer. But he is more conflicted than ever. His new baby keeps him up nights, and the normally precise and methodical Dexter finds himself exhausted to the point of making mistakes in court. "Who knew life could get so unsimple?" he asks early on. Dexter and Mitchell are not the only characters harboring secrets. Some we can mention (Lieutenant Maria LaGuerta and Detective Angel Batista are in a relationship), but others we dare not even hint at (the episode "Hungry Man" has a doozy of a cliffhanger revelation). As the season unfolds, an incognito Dexter insinuates himself into Arthur's life and discovers disturbing parallels in their lives. Meanwhile, now-retired serial killer hunter Frank Lundy (Keith Carradine), who nearly uncovered Dexter's identity back in season 2, returns to ask for his help in catching the Trinity Killer. His reappearance upends the life of Dexter's sister Debra (Jennifer Carpenter), a homicide detective and Lundy's former lover. Debra has also been digging into the past of her late policeman father Harry (James Remar) and learns more about her twisted family tree. Disappointingly, interviews with Hall, Lithgow, and other cast members can be accessed only on a PC, but the DVD does contain episodes of Californication, Lock 'N Load, and The Tudors. --Donald Liebenson

i foolishly thought Dexter was getting a little rote on me . not to worry . the only real criminal failing pertaining to this program is the television community awards overlooking Mr. Hall and company . yet another brilliant season from all these gifted writers and performers . i love waiting a whole year (without cable or satellite or any form of pay television) to sit back and see my favorite show unfurl before my eyes and ears over several viewings . superb entertainment is not without flaws but has only "Breaking Bad" as a contemporary . enough said .

This is my favorite season so far. They continue to stay true to the theme of the show and it still has the same feel as it did in Season 1 but they have been able to allow for good growth and development of the characters. Dexter is now a family man, married with 3 kids. He struggles with holding onto the illusion of being "normal" while still engaging in his outside activities. He does discover something interesting though...he actually has an attachment to Rita and the kids and has actual guilt when he kills an innocent man that he thought was a serial killer.
John Lithgow does a great job playing the bad guy (he always was good at playing lunatics). I enjoyed this season a lot and I hope they continue to keep it going strong in Season 5.

Dexter is the best drama on television, if not the best show period. Yes, I'd even put it over Breaking Bad. Season 4 is its best season yet which is saying a lot since each season has been excellent. The Dexter character certainly hasn't mellowed with fatherhood as he continues to kill for justice. A lot of twists this season as Dexter continues to battle his demons while trying to be a good father and husband. There's also major character development with Debra and a workplace romance that lasts throughout the season. Nearly every episode ends with a cliffhanger. This is great drama, on the level of prime Sopranos. Also worth noting is that John Lithgow did an excellent job as special guest star this season, better than Jimmy Smits in Season 3. I don't want to give away too much but this was an amazing season. If you haven't discovered Dexter, there's no better time than now. If you have Netflix, you could watch the first 2 seasons online for free through your computer, Xbox 360, or Roku. Season 5 starts September 26. Watch it once and you'll be hooked.

1. Be Realistic about Retirement. Most people don't take the time to sit down and figure out how much money they will need for their retirement. Here is an easy way to plan what you'll need for retirement. Take the amount of money you are now living on per year, and subtract the amount of money you can save once the kids move out, and you downsize to a smaller home and car. Take that amount and multiply it by how many years you think you will need to live on your savings. The average life expectancy is 80 years.
2. Make a Budget. This will be one of the biggest helpers for planning retirement finances. Take out a sheet of paper and write down all your monthly expenses. Include your utilities, credit cards, groceries, and everything that you spend money on through the month. Make sure that you add a set amount for retirement savings. The next step is to subtract this amount from your take home income. Do you have anything left over? If you do, that is excellent. You can use these savings for a rainy day account.
3. Cut Back on Expenses. You already knew this was coming. You have a budget, and know what you are spending; now it's time to see where you can cut back so you can put more money into your retirement account. You don't have to cut out all the luxuries in your life, but you might find that by renting movies more often, rather than taking the family to the theater will let you enjoy more luxuries when you retire.
These three tips will help you get started saving for your retirement. Of course, there are many resources available to help planning for retirement. There are many aspects of retirement to consider as well- your health, your social life, your leisure activities and hobbies. By following these three tips, you will be taking action to help you plan for the best retirement possible.
