For those who have never read this genre before, this book is sure to be helpful. For anyone familiar with self-help, self-actualization, organizational and personal psychology books, you won't find anything new here.

Brian Tracy borrows from everyone who has gone before, and never manages to pull it all together into a concise actionable package. I found myself envisioning an endless strategic planning PowerPoint presentation that the consultant couldn't reduce to an effective executive summary.

5 out of 5 stars A powerful key to job fulfillment   March 13, 2009

REINVENTION: HOW TO MAKE THE REST OF YOUR LIFE THE BEST OF YOUR LIFE is a powerful key to job fulfillment and reinvention overall and comes from a 'success expert' with an international reputation. He's helped thousands of people reinvent themselves - and here tells how to evaluate, form a game plan for, and implement change. While business libraries will gain much - so will any general-interest lending library.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect for Changing Times, Brian's "Reinvention" Book Delivers Answers   January 25, 2009

Given the massive turmoil in the economy, millions of job losses and business failures everywhere, Brian Tracy's latest book, "Reinvention" is a perfect solution to help all of us develop a new path forward.

This book is ideal for anyone who's facing difficult changes right now, or wishes to improve and "re-engineer" their life. I've been a longtime Brian Tracy fan, he's one of the few core people who's had a dramatic impact on my life, and this book adds to the knowledge you can get from studying Brian Tracy's winning approach.

Specifically, what's new and different about "Reinvention", and why I recommend it so highly, is:

+ It has a very methodical, proven step-by-step process you can use to "take stock" of where you're at, and how to map out a plan for actions to be taken moving forward.

+ Interactive activities, eg self-check lists and inventories designed to help you highlight what you're best at, how to benefit from it, and what personal strategic direction you want to move forward with.

+ For those seeking jobs, Brian's put together an entire chapter on how to get the perfect job you want, including new tips that are action-oriented and focused for results.

+ Chapter 6, my favorite, is entitled "How Do You Get Ahead?", and contains tons of new tactics that Brian hasn't shared anywhere else yet (like how to "Become Profit-Oriented in Your Business", for example).

+ Tactics for helping you reinvent yourself and put together a plan that will motivate you to "give yourself the benefit of the doubt", during tough times, to find out what direction you want to head in next, and to get started moving in a positive, specific action-oriented manner forward.

Brian's produced yet another winner, I tell all of my customers to immerse themselves in Brian's training, because it's so useful and forms a proven foundation for personal and business success. Be sure to get to his in-person seminars if you can, I saw him in Denver again a few months ago and he was terrific, as always.

I like to see Brian as a gentle, wise and knowledgeable mentor whose voice (through his words, audios, videos, and teleseminars/seminars) has helped me immensely, in many ways (from business success to sales to presentation skills to managerial success to handling challenging times to goal-setting, and so much more). One of the best-read (and respected) individuals on the planet, he's a true researcher and teacher.

This new addition, "Reinvention", is a perfect tonic for troubled times, and I highly recommend it to everyone who's seeking success and techniques for getting a new start on life. Bravo, Brian - thanks!
A++++

Your 401k Account - An Annual Checkup
By Dee Marie

You probably perform a lot of tasks annually. Some of these tasks protect you, your family, or even your assets. These chores include visiting your doctor for an annual physical or cleaning the gutters on your house. Well, next time you're making your list of 'must-do's' be certain to include a checkup for your 401(k) plan on your list.

Your annual examination of your 401(k) plan should cover a few different aspects of your investment. You can check each one quickly by exploring your most recent account statement.

First, you should evaluate your contribution amount. Changes in your financial position over the past year could warrant an increase or decrease in the amount you put into your 401(k). Receiving a raise at work is a great occasion to increase your retirement contribution. Changing your contribution amount isn't what matters here; it's taking the time to decide if you should make a change.

Next, you should take a look at your investment choices. A mutual fund that was outperforming its peers at this time last year may have tanked over the last twelve months. Although it's important to remember that you don't want to change your investment allocations too often, a regular examination of the funds you've chosen isn't excessive.

Finally, you should check on the way your investment options within your 401(k) are spread. Investing in four mutual funds, you might decide to put twenty-five percent of your account into each fund. However, if one fund grows more aggressively than another, at the end of the year you may have forty percent in one fund, ten percent in another, and twenty-five percent in each of the remaining two funds. Since financial experts sometimes advise that retirement accounts should be spread among many different types of investment, you may want to rebalance your account back to your original allocations of twenty-five percent in each fund.

Making changes to your 401(k) plan isn't something that should be taken lightly. Speak with your financial advisor if you aren't certain about the direction you should be taking. Regardless of the actions you decide to take, you'll feel better about your retirement plan after taking care of its annual maintenance.

Retirement Facts

In the private sector, participation by type of retirement plan has largely reversed over the past quartercentury: 'Traditional' defined benefit pension plans were dominant in 1979, but have been overtaken by defined contribution (401(k)-type) plans. The share of workers who are in both a defined benefit and defined contribution plan has remained fairly constant over the years.
